All tickets $20
Mollie O’Brien & Rich Moore’s concert at the Grand Mesa Arts Center will be a potent blend of some of the old, some of the new, and some of the experimental. They’ll of course do some of their favorite tunes (and yours) from their vast repertoire, along with new ones. But the real fun will be their sharing the stage with their friends, 3hattrio (say: “Three Hat Trio”).
Hailing from Zion Canyon in Southern Utah 3hattrio is Hal Cannon, Greg Istock and Eli Wrankle. Singer, guitarist and banjoist Hal is a folklorist and cowboy music scholar, and was instrumental in the founding of the Western Folklife Center, The Deseret String Band, and the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. He is also happens to be the composer of one of Mollie & Rich’s favorite songs “Just Go”, which they recorded on their album “Love Runner”. Greg Istock plays acoustic bass and foot percussion, but is capable of playing almost any instrument you put in his hands. He has a Caribbean music background, and sings in a haunting and soulful style. Eli Wrankle, is a classically trained violinist who studies music at Southern Utah University and comes from a family of artists. He’s both the apprentice to the group and the old soul with a fresh ear. These three will join Mollie & Rich on some Mollie & Rich favorites, and then turn the tables while they are joined by Mollie & Rich on some 3hattrio music. The arrangements and assortments will be all over the map, but you’ll never get lost. Or maybe just a little (if you’re lucky).
